How the Listening Test Rewards Strategy
Most candidates lose marks not because the audio is too fast, but because they read the questions poorly. The ten-second pauses between sections are your most valuable tool: use every second to underline keywords and predict the type of answer you expect (number, place, date, noun).
The exam plays each recording only once, so train yourself to move on immediately after an answer. Sticking on a missed question is the single biggest cause of cascade errors — missing one usually means missing two or three more while you panic.
- Predict the part of speech before you listen — if the question shows "a ___", expect a noun.
- Write answers while listening, then transfer them carefully in the 10-minute gap at the end.
- Watch spelling: small misspellings still get marked wrong.
- Capital letters do not matter in the Listening test, but spelling always does.
